Fort Campbell, Ky., is "Screaming Eagle Country," home of the world's lone Air Assault Division. The base straddles the Kentucky-Tennessee border between the towns of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Clarksville, Tenn., and is about 60 miles northwest of Nashville. Named in 1942 after William B. Campbell, a Tennessee statesman and brigadier general of the U.S. Volunteers during the Civil War, the post is mostly in Tennessee even though the identity of the post is in Kentucky.

The original site was selected in 1941, during the buildup for World War II, and within a year accommodated one armored division and various support troops. Today, it is home to some of the most advanced airplane and helicopter technology.

Recreational opportunities on base include hunting and fishing, stables, skeet ranges, pools, archery, a wellness center, gyms, bowling and golf.
